How to Read the Bible Like a Christian
Don’t we all read our Bibles like Christians? Well, all who profess faith in Christ are Christians, and, we expect, all Christians read their Bibles. So, what do I mean?
Think of the first Christians. The only Bible they had was what we now call the Old Testament. That was Jesus’s Bible. This was the apostle’s Bible. How did they read it? THAT is the question, and it’s an important one.
We get a clear sense as to how Jesus read his Bible from Luke 24:25-27, 44-49. Jesus is the LENS through which we read all of Scripture. But that still leaves the question of HOW the Old Testament commands apply to us. And THAT is the question before us this Sunday when we gather to consider Luke 16:14-18.
There was much confusion in the early church as some Jews (Judaizers) went around trying to convince Gentiles to become circumcised and observe the Old Testament dietary laws and festivals. Thankfully, Jesus and the apostles addressed this concern, and this Sunday, we will learn from Jesus how to read our Bibles, in particular, the Old Testament as Christians. Join us!
