The Lord Will Supply All Your Needs Luke 9:1-17
Just as when you get a new job you might receive on the job training, so also, beginning in Luke 9, Jesus turns to the twelve apostles to give them some on the job training for mission. The first lesson in order is “dependence.” The disciples must depend on Jesus for mission and ministry.
Depending on Jesus for Mission (9:1-9)
In Luke 9:1-50, Jesus turns his attention to preparing the twelve to join Jesus in his mission of proclaiming the good news of the kingdom in power. If the apostles are to be faithful, they must depend on Jesus for power (v.1), provision (vv.3-4), and fruitfulness (vv.5-9).
Like the disciples, we also must depend upon Jesus for power, provision, and fruitfulness in ministry. He has given us power – his holy Spirit. And he provides for all we need through his people. But all the fruitfulness if from him. We simply share the gospel. He causes the growth.
How are you participating in the mission Jesus has commissioned us for as a Christian: at home, with family, friends, co-workers, classmates, neighbors?
How are you participating in the mission as a member of High Pointe with us?
Because Jesus is the promised Christ, we can trust him to provide everything we need for our mission. So, join us!
Depending on Jesus for Ministry (9:10-17)
After the twelve return from their mission and experience Jesus’s provision, they still need to learn the lesson of dependence on Christ. Over 5,000 people have gathered, and they doubt they can feed them. So Jesus works through them to teach them how he provides.
Don’t we do the same thing as the apostles – instead of trusting in Jesus’s power and authority, we only see what we can or cannot do.
How do we limit Jesus when we live and serve in our wisdom and strength, thinking only in terms of what e can or cannot do?
What might trusting in Jesus’s wisdom and power instead of our own look like: personally, together as a church?
We too need to be reminded that Jesus provides everything we need to fulfill our ministry. So, bring your weakness, and trust his strength. Bring your little, and trust his abundance.

Summer Life Class | Sundays at 9AM
Life Classes are meant to equip High Pointe for life as a Christian. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and join us. This session, we are offering the following Summer Life Class:
What Does It Mean to Be a Christian Today?
The way Christians live out their faith has always been affected by the culture and context around them. That’s as true for us today as it was for believers centuries ago. So how have Christians remained faithful in the face of changing times, challenges, and cultures? This summer, join us as we explore the lives of key figures from Church History and discover how they sought to follow Christ in their own era. Each week we’ll zoom in on a different individual (or group), considering their faithfulness, flaws, and what we can take away from their example.
Please note: There is no children’s ministry or nursery provided during the summer months.
