Jesus Is Lord Over All | Luke 8:22-56
Each of the people in Luke 8 faced a storm they could not control. The disciples were powerless against the wind and waves (8:22-25). The demon-possessed man was overtaken by evil (8:26-39). The woman had spent years seeking healing without hope (8:43-47). And Jairus stood helpless before the death of his daughter (8:40-56). In each case, Jesus stepped in—not merely as a helper, but as Lord.
He spoke, and the storm was stilled.
He commanded, and the demons fled.
He touched, and the bleeding stopped.
He called, and the dead girl rose.
These stories are not just about what Jesus did. They’re about who Jesus is. He is Lord over creation, over demons, over disease, and over death itself. Because Jesus is Lord over all, faith, not fear, is the only appropriate response to him.
So, let me ask you: What storm are you facing? What are you tempted to fear? Are you anxious about circumstances beyond your control? Are you weighed down by evil, suffering, or grief?
The same Jesus who calmed the storm, cast out the demons, healed the afflicted, and raised the dead is alive today. And he calls to you the same way he called to Jairus: “Do not fear. Only believe.”
Faith does not mean pretending storms aren’t real. Faith means trusting that Jesus is Lord in the middle of them. And trusting that his word, his authority, and his power are greater than anything we fear. So come to him. Bring your fears. And believe.

“No Chance of Survival: How a Deadly Plane Crash Yielded a Growing Spiritual Harvest” by Sarah Zylstra, TGC
This longform, narrative podcast tells the story of how pastor Kennon Vaughan survived a plane crash that killed his fellow pastors and friends. It’s a story of God’s providence, evangelism, and the power of discipleship in the local church.
“A Storm in the Desert,” by Alex Duke, 9Marks
In 1972, at the base of a Swiss mountain, God saved a man named Mack Stiles. Two decades later, John Folmar “accepted Jesus as his personal Savior”; he doesn’t know even where he first heard that phrase. What happens in the next quarter-century is a testament to God’s commitment to use faithful, ordinary ministry to effect fruitful, extraordinary change. A Storm in the Desert tells this story.

Summer Life Class | Sundays at 9AM
Life Classes are meant to equip High Pointe for life as a Christian. We encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity and join us. This session, we are offering the following Summer Life Class:
What Does It Mean to Be a Christian Today?
The way Christians live out their faith has always been affected by the culture and context around them. That’s as true for us today as it was for believers centuries ago. So how have Christians remained faithful in the face of changing times, challenges, and cultures? This summer, join us as we explore the lives of key figures from Church History and discover how they sought to follow Christ in their own era. Each week we’ll zoom in on a different individual (or group), considering their faithfulness, flaws, and what we can take away from their example.
Please note: There is no children’s ministry or nursery provided during the summer months.
Sunday AM Preaching Schedule: Pray regularly for the ministry of the Word at High Pointe.
