The Majesty of Christ | Luke 9:28-36
As we seek to follow Jesus’s voice and follow him, dozens of other voices also call out, telling us something contrary to what Jesus tells us. With so many competing voices in our world, whose voice are you listening to? Whose voice do you prioritize?
When the voices of our world seemingly drown out Jesus’s voice, our Father reminds us, “This is my Son, my Chosen One, listen to him” (Luke 9:35). That’s the point of Jesus’s transfiguration. We are to listen to Jesus because he is the unique Son of God who shares the Father’s glory (9:28-31) and fulfills the Father’s saving plan (9:34-36).
Sadly, just like Peter, John, and James, we are often tempted to listen to voices other than Jesus’s (9:32-33). They wanted to enshrine their personal experience and, inadvertently, make Moses’s, Elijah’s, and Jesus’s voices equal. That’s when the Father declares, “Listen to him.”
One who “listens to Jesus” is characterized by hearing and obeying Jesus’s words. Jesus confirmed that the entire Old Testament pointed to him. And since the OT is God’s word, and Jesus is God, it is also Jesus’s word. Jesus also told his disciples that he would send the Spirit to “guide them into all truth” (John 16:12-15). By the ministry of the Spirit, the disciples of Jesus wrote down the words of Jesus so that we may have them today. This is our New Testament.
So, our Bible is God’s word, Jesus’s word. To listen to Jesus is to listen to God. To listen to Jesus is to listen to his word.
Listen to Preaching – we hear Jesus’s voice and that helps us navigate all the competing voices we will hear in our world.
Listen to the Singing – we remind one another what Jesus says.
Listen with others – everything we do at High Pointe is to help one another listen to Jesus’ voice: Life Classes, High Pointe Institute, Bible Studies, Life Groups...
Listen alone – read, study, memorize, and meditate on God’s word, Jesus’s voice, the Bible.
Help others Listen – this is what we call discipleship.
But we must also be doers of the word, not just hearers. The one who hears and obeys Jesus, hears and obeys God. If you love Jesus, you will obey his commandments. Obeying Jesus means we trust his word above all others.
When it comes to life’s most important questions, whose voice are you listening to? Listen to him!

God has blessed each of us with unique gifts and talents, and at High Pointe, we believe serving is how we use those gifts to bless others and advance His kingdom.

KidsPointe Registration is NOW OPEN | Begins THIS Sunday August 24
Registration is open for the 2025-2026 school year of KidsPointe. K-5th grade children are welcome to attend. All children attending must be registered, even if they've attended KidsPointe in the past. We're studying The Gospel Story which teaches children that the Bible is one continuous story that points to Jesus as the hero. Parents interested in serving in KidsPointe are encouraged to contact Erin Wyman.
High Pointe Institute | Begins August 27
The High Pointe Institute (HPI) is a one-year training program meant to offer a pathway for growing disciples to be equipped for ministry both in the church and the world. The goal is to form mature disciples who are growing in their knowledge and love for God, who are committed to the church’s mission, and who are devoted to helping others follow Christ. UT International Friendship Program | Application Deadline August 29
International Student and Scholar Services (ISSS) at the University of Texas is proud to sponsor the Friendship Program to connect members of the Austin community with our international students and scholars. We are privileged to partner with the K family in North Africa. For 15 years, the Ks have been reaching unbelievers in a predominantly Muslim country (99%). And yet, the body of Christ is growing in that nation.
Some ways you may be praying:
1. Pray for a healthy, fruitful church led by godly, growing, local leaders.
2. Pray for these believers/leaders, especially as they face unique opportunities and challenges.
3. Pray for the K family – for a Jesus-centered home and joyful hearts.
4. Pray for the K family’s financial provision.
