Wholehearted Followers of Jesus

Luke 9:51-62, introduces us to the greatest example of wholehearted commitment ever: Jesus! He “set his face to go to Jerusalem” (v.51). That is, knowing the Father’s plan, he resolved to go to Jerusalem to die, be raised, and taken up again to the Father. All for our salvation!

In God’s saving plan in Christ, we not only see God’s sovereign providence working out. We also see God’s unconditional love for us in Christ. And we see Jesus’s wholehearted commitment to the Father’s glory and our salvation.

Jesus calls all who would follow him to this same wholehearted commitment. But we are not saved by our doing. We are saved by Christ’s doing. Still, when we understand who Jesus is and what he has done for us, our natural response is to give ourselves wholeheartedly to Jesus. We must be prepared to go WHEREVER Jesus sends us and do WHATEVER Jesus calls us to WHENEVER he calls us.

Let us, then, help one another follow Jesus with our whole hearts. HOW? Pointing one another to this glorious vision of the risen Christ, reminding one another of who he is and what he has done. Remember, our commitment flows out of Jesus’s. It is our response to his. Also, don’t be a distraction to those Jesus is calling. Let us stimulate one another to love and good deeds. Let us urge one another to follow Jesus with undistracted devotion.

Will you follow Jesus WHEREVER he leads to do WHATEVER he asks WHENEVER he asks?

Gospel Partner of the Month: Reaching and Teaching International Ministries – B.M.
Reaching & Teaching International Ministries (RTIM) seeks to advance the gospel by partnering with local churches as they send qualified missionaries to make mature disciples, establish healthy churches, and train local leaders around the world.

You may know of RTIM because we sent Davey and Callie Davis and the P family through this sending organization. This month, we want to highlight our support for B.M. B and his wife served for seven years as missionaries in Central Asia, working in evangelism, discipleship, and church planting. After returning to the US, B spent six years as a global trainer, traveling around the world to equip international church leaders for ministry. He desires to see the gospel spread and churches established among the nations of Central Asia. B is a graduate of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He and his wife have three children.
