July Preaching Series 2021

This Sunday we begin our second annual July Preaching Series. Each Sunday in July, we will host a special guest who will deliver the sermon in our 10:00 am gathering. There are several reasons I’m excited about this preaching series, but the primary reason is that it allows us to hear the same gospel from faithful voices outside of High Pointe. I hope and pray you will be encouraged.

Who is coming?

July 4 | Ray Ortlund
Pastor of Pastors, Immanuel Church Nashville, Tennessee and President of Renewal Ministries

Ray graduated from Wheaton College as a Bachelor of Arts, from Dallas Theological Seminary as a Master of Theology, from The University of California at Berkeley as a Master of Arts, and from the University of Aberdeen, Scotland, as a Doctor of Philosophy. Pastor Ortlund was ordained into the Christian ministry by Lake Avenue Congregational Church, Pasadena, California, in 1975.  He taught Old Testament and Semitic Languages at Trinity Evangelical Divinity School, Deerfield, Illinois, from 1989 to 1998.  His primary ministry, for 28 years, has been as a pastor in California, Oregon, Georgia and Tennessee.

In addition to numerous essays and articles, Ray has published eight books.  His latest, Marriage and the Mystery of the Gospel, was named “2017 Christian Book of the Year” in the category Bible Study. He also served as an Old Testament translator for The New Living Translation and The English Standard Version of the Bible. He contributed the introduction and study notes to the book of Isaiah in The ESV Study Bible.

Ray is also the President of Renewal Ministries and serves on the Council of The Gospel Coalition.
Ray and his wife Jani have been married for forty-five happy years, they have four delightful children and 13 amazing grandchildren. Ray says, “I have the most wonderful wife, I love my kids and grandkids, and I love Immanuel Church. My dream is that God would use us for true revival in our city.”

July 11 | Bobby Scott
Pastor of Discipleship at Community of Faith Bible Church, Los Angeles, California

Pastor Bobby is a graduate of The Master’s Seminary (MDiv, ThM). He loves teaching the Word of God through the power of the Holy Spirit and watching it transform people’s lives (2 Cor 3:18). Pastor Bobby oversees Sunday morning and mid-week teaching ministries and is humbled by the privilege of chairing the Elder Team. He believes he married up when God blessed him with his wife, Naomi. He loves his six (Yes, six!) kids. As a UCLA alumni, his two favorite two teams are UCLA and whoever is playing SC. Go Bruins!!!

July 18 | Ed Moore
Senior Pastor, North Shore Baptist Church, Bayside, New York
Ed Moore has been the pastor of North Shore Baptist Church since 1992. He is a graduate of the University of Georgia and Columbia Biblical Seminary. He has led short term mission teams to the Island of Jamaica every year since 1989. He and his wife, Anna, have four children and live in Bayside, NY.

July 25 | Josh Hayward
Senior Pastor, Kinney Avenue Christian Fellowship, Austin, Texas

Josh was called to serve as Senior Pastor of Kinney in September of 2018. He previously served as an Associate Pastor of High Pointe Baptist Church in Austin. Josh received his undergraduate degree in Biblical Studies from Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL and his Masters of Divinity in Biblical Counseling from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. He married Christina, his high school sweetheart, in 2006 and they have four sons and one daughter.

How can you participate in this series?

Pray
Please join us in praying for the guest preachers to preach the Word with faithfulness and conviction. Pray for their families and churches while they are away. And pray for us that we would hear the Word and be faithful to obey.

Come
Be sure to make every effort to be with us each Sunday in July that you’re in town. I am sure you will be blessed.

Welcome
As always, continue to welcome all our guests. Not only will we have guest preachers in July, but already we are seeing LOTS of visitors in our morning services. This is a time when families moving into town are looking to find a home church. Continue to make all our guests feel welcome at High Pointe.

Love,
Pastor Juan
