Good Friday & Easter at High Pointe April 7 & 9, 2023
It seems like the new year began just yesterday. But we set our clocks one hour forward last Sunday, and now we’re already looking at Easter in a few weeks. The good news is that spring is upon us, the air is cool, and the flowers and trees are budding. This is my favorite time of the year in Texas.
In God’s created order, spring points us to the resurrection from the dead. From the winter “death” springs new life. In God’s revealed word, we are told of Jesus’ resurrection as the one that points to our future resurrection (1 Corinthians 15). In God’s providence, the church has gathered on Sunday, the Lord’s Day for over 2,000 years to remember Jesus’ resurrection. In other words, the church celebrates Easter every Sunday. But once a year, our culture sets aside this one day of the year. Though it has been filled with bunnies and candy, Easter is still a reminder of the glorious good news of Jesus – he died, just as the Scriptures said; he was buried; and he rose again on the third day, just as the Scriptures say.
This year, Good Friday falls on April 7, and Easter Sunday on April 9. Most of you will join us on those days. May I encourage you to pray and think about an unbelieving, unchurched person you may invite? Most people are open to an invitation to church, especially during Easter (and Christmas). So, take advantage of their openness and offer the invitation.
Pray with us as we seek to engage our neighbors and friends with the gospel.
